Activities


The following are quick activities to review and refresh your knowledge base regarding topics related to U-POD data.  They can be used by individuals or during preschool staff meetings.  The time required for each ranges from 5-15 minutes to complete.  These and other similar activities can be found at:http://projects.fpg.unc.edu/~eco/pages/training_activities.cfm

Which Outcome is it?
Learning Objective: Participants will understand the content of the three child outcomes.

Description: This activity contains Power Point slides that may be inserted into any presentation. On each of three slides, information is given about the skills and behaviors in an outcome area, and the subsequent slide identifies which of the three outcomes is represented.

Outcomes Jeopardy:
Learning Objective: Participants will demonstrate their understanding of the skills included in each of the three child outcomes.

Description: This activity is presented in a PPT slide formatted after the game show "Jeopardy." Behind each door on the screen is the answer to a question. The participant provides the question corresponding to the answer. Possible responses include, 'What is Outcome 1?' 'What is Outcome 2?' or 'What is Outcome 3?' Blank score sheets are available for recording individual responses, or the activity may be completed as a large group with either teams or individuals calling out answers.

Rating Scale Jeopardy:

Learning Objective: Participants will demonstrate their understanding of the Child Outcomes Summary 7-point rating scale.

Description:This activity is presented in a PPT slide formatted after the game show "Jeopardy." Behind each door on the screen is an answer to a question. The participant provides the question corresponding to the answer. Possible responses include, 'What is a rating of 1?' 'What is a rating of 2?' 'What is a rating of 3?' etc. Blank score sheets are available for recording individual responses, or the activity may be completed as a large group with either teams or individuals calling out answers.

What are Functional Skills and Outcomes?

Learning Objective: Participants will identify the difference between isolated skills and functional skills in order to better understand and assess children's every day functioning.

Description: Measuring the three child outcomes requires an understanding of functional skills and behaviors. In this activity, participants review a list and determine whether the skills are 'functional' or 'isolated.'
