The purpose of the Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines is to help families, educators and communities make informed decisions about curriculum for pre-kindergarten children.

The guidelines describe specific, research-based objectives for pre-kindergarten children in five basic content areas. The intent of this organizational design is to ensure that all four-year-old children have the opportunity in their early childhood experiences to achieve these objectives. The implementation of these guidelines in the home and in early childhood programs will improve kindergarten transition and reduce readiness and achievement gaps.
